Government is preparing to bring these 16 bills including Waqf Bill in this Parliament session, see the list

The winter session of Parliament is starting from Monday, November 25. In this first winter session after the formation of the new government in the general elections held this year, the government is preparing to pass some pending bills while some new bills are also on the agenda. In the agenda that has come out for the winter session, there are names of a total of 16 bills, new and old.

The most talked about bills in this list are the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill 2024. These bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament. Amid protests and uproar from opposition parties, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill in the Lok Sabha.

As soon as these bills were introduced in Parliament, they were sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) without any discussion. JPC is led by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Jagdambika Pal. With the formation of JPC, it was decided that it would present its report in Parliament on the last day of the first week of the next session. According to this, JPC will present its report on November 29.

Jagdambika Pal, who is leading the JPC, has also said that our report is ready. However, MPs from opposition parties are demanding to extend the tenure of JPC. Along with the Waqf Amendment Bill, the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill was also sent to the JPC. This bill will also be brought back for discussion and passing after the JPC report is presented in Parliament.

These bills are on the agenda

Among the 16 bills included in the agenda for the winter session of Parliament, there are five new bills. The remaining 11 bills are already pending in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. Along with these pending bills, there is also a bill related to cooperative university in the list of new bills. During the Parliament session, apart from the Waqf Bill and the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill, a total of five new bills, including a bill related to the establishment of a National Cooperative University, are to be presented for discussion and passing.

The first batch of supplementary demands for grants will also be discussed during the winter session. Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill, Merchant Shipping Bill, Coastal Shipping Bill will also be introduced in the upcoming session of Parliament. Apart from these bills, Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, Bill related to adjustment of representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly, Railways (Amendment) Bill and Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill are already pending.

It is noteworthy that Kiren Rijiju had indicated preparations to bring the bill related to One Nation, One Election in this session. Ramnath Kovind Committee has submitted its report regarding this to the government and that report has also got cabinet approval but there is no mention of the bill related to this in the list of 16 bills. Let us tell you that the winter session of Parliament is starting from 25th November. The proceedings of the session are to continue till December 20.
