The case of the death of model and former Miss Pune Twisha Sharma seemed to be taking a new turn on Wednesday when the Madhya Pradesh government told the High Court that the injury marks recorded in the post-mortem report could be the result of some struggle or scuffle before death. After this argument of the government, the suspicion of murder in the case which was till now considered suicide has deepened. This may increase the legal problems of Twisha’s mother-in-law Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Madhya Pradesh government, said in the court, ‘There were injury marks on the wrist, elbow and head.’ He argued that the post-mortem report indicates that these injuries could not have been caused while lowering the body.
Madhya Pradesh High Court was hearing petitions in which there was a demand to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to Twisha’s mother-in-law. The state government alleges that Giribala Singh and his son Samarth Singh had harassed 33-year-old Twisha over dowry.

Used to get taunts on low expenditure in marriage
Sarkar told the court that Twisha’s mother-in-law and husband constantly taunted her over the alleged low expenditure by Twisha’s family on the wedding. At the same time, the High Court has reserved its decision on the petition demanding cancellation of anticipatory bail given to Giribala Singh.
Accusation of not cooperating in investigation
During the hearing, the state government accused Giribala Singh of not cooperating in the investigation. Tushar Mehta told the court that notices were sent to him on May 13 and 14, but he refrained from joining the investigation. Sarkar also said that even when the police reached her house to give notice, she was not found there.
The state government alleged that Giribala Singh tried to influence the prosecution in the case and possibly even attempted to influence evidence. The government also said that the trial court ignored his influential position while granting anticipatory bail.
Question on talking to media
During the hearing, the issue of Giribala Singh continuously talking to the media after Twisha’s death also came up. Tushar Mehta said in the court, ‘There was time to talk to the media, but not to cooperate in the investigation.’
He also alleged that Giribala Singh was showing ‘arrogance’ instead of cooperating with the investigating agencies. Mehta said that an attempt was made to prepare a narrative and influence the witnesses through the press conference.
Mother-in-law came between husband and wife?
The state government also told the court that an attempt was being made to project Giribala Singh as a ‘woman with liberal views’, while the WhatsApp chats indicated something else. Tushar Mehta, citing a chat between Twisha and her mother, said that the family repeatedly advised Twisha to ‘compromise’ and maintain relations with her mother-in-law. Referring to another chat, he said that the mother-in-law had created distance between Twisha and her husband.
Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Twisha Sharma’s family, told the court that anticipatory bail was granted on the basis of a statement which was presented ‘completely out of context’. He argued that anticipatory bail was granted at the initial stage of registration of the FIR and even before the accused joined the investigation. Luthra said, ‘In such a case, bail should not have been granted without considering the nature of the investigation.’
mention of whatsapp chat
Citing WhatsApp chats, he alleged that Twisha’s in-laws had raised questions on the paternity of her child. Luthra said in the court, ‘What can be greater cruelty than this for a woman?’ He also told that Twisha had had an abortion.
What message did Twisha send?
Referring to a message sent by Twisha to her mother, Luthra said that she had written, ‘They are all very cruel, there is no mercy, I feel suffocated here.’ He argued that Twisha looked extremely scared in the last conversation and she died under unnatural circumstances.
Meanwhile, a major development came to light in the case, when CBI took Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh into custody on Wednesday. The state government supported the demand of CBI in which the custody of mother and son was sought. The government said that under the conditions of bail, the accused had to cooperate in the investigation and not tamper with the evidence.
What did the government say in the court?
The government said in the court, ‘Look at their conduct, such allegations were made against Twisha in a press conference, to which she is no longer in this world to answer.’ On Monday, CBI took over the investigation by re-registering the FIR registered by Madhya Pradesh Police. Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh have been made accused in the FIR.
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of mental harassment, domestic violence and dowry harassment. According to the FIR, the family alleges that the accused were not satisfied with the dowry given in the marriage that took place on December 9, 2025.
The case took a more serious turn when Twisha’s parents alleged negligence in the initial investigation. After this, on the instructions of Madhya Pradesh High Court, the team of doctors of AIIMS Delhi conducted the second post-mortem.
Now the High Court has to give its verdict on the petition of canceling the anticipatory bail of Giribala Singh, which can prove to be important in deciding the direction of investigation in this high profile case.
