Junior doctor, rape-murder and ‘lapse’ in investigation… Police stations were ‘purified’ with Ganga water and cow dung.

BJP Mahila Morcha workers led the campaign under the leadership of BJP leaders Agnimitra Paul and Locket Chatterjee as part of their protest against alleged lapses in the investigation of the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s government-run RG Kar Hospital last month.

BJP Mahila Morcha workers on Monday gathered a crowd to ‘cleanse’ several police stations of West Bengal against the lapses and negligence in the case of brutality on a junior doctor in Kolkata. They protested by purifying the police stations by sprinkling Ganga water outside many police stations and applying cow dung paste with brooms.

Both BJP leaders, along with other party workers, alleged that the ‘purification’ of police stations has ended after policemen were found involved in alleged wrongdoings. Therefore, they protested by sprinkling holy water of river Ganga and applying cow dung with brooms in front of police stations.

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said that they have come as a symbolic protest to clean up the police station in Behala in South Kolkata. The BJP leader said that when the doctor’s body was hastily cremated and a discrepancy was found between the timing of the FIR and the post-mortem investigation, where was the police?

On August 9, a female junior doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Now CBI is investigating the doctor’s death. Three people, including former college principal Sandeep Ghosh and a policeman, have been arrested by the central agency in connection with its investigation.

Locket Chatterjee, who was protesting in front of the DC North office in Maniktala in northern Kolkata, broke police barricades and swept away dung with a broom. Opposition parties including BJP were accusing the police of serious lapses in the investigation of this case before the CBI investigation.
