The Supreme Court on March 5 made it clear that any hold-up in the scheduled execution of death sentence of the four Nirbhaya gang-rape case convicts on March 20 will see the court itself action in on March 23 to immediately choose the federal government’s appeal for approval to separately hang them to death.
The guarantee from a three-judge Bench led by Justice R. Banumathi came while attending to the government’s apprehension that possibilities are high that one or other of the four convicts may show up in court before March 20 with a new plea and more hold-up the execution.
” I am no astrologist … however they [convicts] will discover something to postpone the March 20 execution … I am not in a rush to perform them, but the system is suffering when the penalty keeps getting held off. The convicts have been taking the system for a trip … Even now, it has actually been over 2 years considering that their evaluation petitions were dismissed by the Supreme Court,” Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta sent.
