The suspense has ended in Delhi with the Chief Minister’s face. MLA Rekha Gupta from Shalimar Bagh seat will be the new Chief Minister. In the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party, his name was unanimously approved. His swearing -in ceremony will take place on Thursday (February 20) at Ramlila Maidan. Rekha Gupta was at the forefront of the race for the post of CM. MLA Vijendra Gupta and Pravesh Verma proposed his name in the meeting, which was supported by all. After the suspense about CM’s face is over, it is now the turn of ministers. According to sources, the cabinet may include Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma (Jat), Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Sikh), Ravindra Raj (Dalit), Kapil Mishra (Purvanchali Brahmin), Ashish Sood (Punjabi) and Pankaj Singh (Purvanchali Thakur).
DU Students’ Union begins with president
Rekha Gupta has studied at Delhi University and she was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) since college time. He also won the election for the post of President and General Secretary in Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). Apart from this, she has been a councilor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi thrice and has also been the mayor of South Delhi (SDMC). He defeated AAP candidate Vandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh seat by 30 thousand votes. He first contested the assembly elections from Shalimar Bagh in 2013, although AAP’s Vandana Kumari then defeated him by about 11,000 votes. She did not lose courage even after the defeat and then the BJP gave her a councilor ticket from Shalimar Bagh and she reached the MCD after winning.
Why did BJP choose Rekha Gupta?
Many veterans like Pravesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the race for the post of Chief Minister, were running the names of many veterans like Delhi’s veteran leader Vijendra Gupta. Despite this, the party bets on Rekha Gupta. Rekha Gupta, who comes from Vaishya society, originally belongs to Jind in Haryana. The BJP has given a clear message to increase the participation of women in the party and government by making women chief ministers.

In the 70 -member Delhi Assembly elections, BJP fielded 9 women candidates. Four of these women candidates have won. At the same time, women voted more than men in the 2025 assembly elections in Delhi. The turnout of women voters was 60.92%, while men had 60.21%.
