U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared on Wednesday that Hong Kong no longer enjoys the autonomy assured by Beijing, removing the financial center of its unique status under U.S. law. “I accredited to Congress today that Hong Kong does not continue to warrant treatment under United States laws in the very same way as U.S. laws were applied to Hong Kong before July 1997,” Mr. Pompeo stated in a declaration.
