As Australians invest the day honoring fallen soldiers, one Queensland mom is en route to the United States after her 20- year-old child died suddenly following a military training workout there recently.
Leonid “Leon” Ciuffoli was a year into his profession with the US Army and apparently healthy when he died in Washington DC on April 12.
His mother, Elizaveta Sergeev-Ciuffioli and two brother or sisters have been approved a caring exemption on COVID-19 travel restrictions and are flying to the United States.
” It is essentially a horror film within a scary movie,” Ms Sergeev-Ciuffioli said.
” We needed to be there for our boy and see him one last time– we do not feel like we can completely grieve appropriately here.”
