Questions continue to surround the alleged custodial torture case at Baranga Police Station in Cuttack, as police and the victim’s family present conflicting versions of the incident.
Rakesh Behera, a resident of Chandiprasad village under Baranga police limits, is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital after allegedly sustaining serious injuries while in police custody. His family has accused police personnel of brutally assaulting him, an allegation strongly denied by the Commissionerate Police.
According to family members, Rakesh had lodged a missing person complaint on June 16 after his wife went missing a day earlier. On June 21, police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the Kathajodi riverbed and suspected it to be that of the missing woman. Rakesh and his family were called to identify the body.
