Scorching heat across Rajasthan; Dholpur hottest at 46.3 deg CRajasthan remained under the grip of scorching heat conditions on Saturday, with Dholpur recording a maximum temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius, the highest in the state. Temperatures in many parts of the state settled around 45 degrees Celsius during the day. According to the meteorological department, Ganganagar recorded a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer 45.9 degrees Celsius, Pilani 45.7 degrees Celsius, Sangaria (Hanumangarh) and Phalodi 45.6 degrees Celsius, Churu 45.5 degrees Celsius, Bikaner 45.2 degrees Celsius and Barmer 45.1 degrees Celsius.
Beijing building makeshift hospitalsBeijing is preparing to construct makeshift hospitals to cope with the latest upsurge of the novel coronavirus, said a press conference on Saturday. So far, about 4,000 beds have been reserved for COVID-19 infections in Beijing, and more venues are being transformed into large-scale makeshift hospitals in case of need, said Li Ang, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission. The latest classifications have brought the total number of high-risk areas in Beijing to six and medium-risk areas to 23, said a press conference on local epidemic prevention and control work, reported Xinhua.

Punjab announces Rs 1,500 per acre assistance to farmers for direct seeding of paddy cultivationPunjab Government on Saturday announced assistance of Rs 1,500 per acre of land to farmers for the direct seeding of paddy. Taking to Twitter, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “Today government has decided to give Rs 1,500 per acre assistance to every farmer doing direct cultivation of paddy. My appeal to farmer colleagues – Inspire your friends and relatives to do direct cultivation of paddy. This will increase the yield of paddy and we have to save the water of the soil of Punjab.” Notably, in direct seeding of paddy cultivation, pre-germinated seeds are directly drilled into the field. In this method of cultivation, flooding of fields is not done during sowing which saves water. Plus, this method of paddy cultivation is less labour-intensive.
55 new COVID-19 cases in BengalWest Bengal on Saturday reported 55 new COVID-19 cases, which raised the tally in the state to 20,18,260, a bulletin issued by the health department said. The toll remained unchanged with no fresh fatality due to the disease reported from any part of the state, the bulletin stated. As many as 24 recuperated from the infection since Friday, pushing the total recoveries in the state to 19,96,693.

It is a legitimate commercial arrangement for Xiaomi India to make such royalty payments,” it said.

Undisputed amount is Rs 2591.45 crore. The second highest amount is owed by West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited, which has dues of Rs 1066.40 crore. State pension scheme beneficiary base more than doubles in Jharkhand since Dec 2019Coverage under the State Pension Scheme (SPS) has more than doubled in the past two years in Jharkhand. The number of beneficiaries under different pension schemes, which was 6,60, 871 in December 2019, has risen to 14,34,314 in April 2022, an official release said. Under the Chief Minister State Old Age Pension Scheme, the number of beneficiaries rose from 3,45,168 on December 31, 2019, to 9,22,594 on April 28, 2022.
