It certainly looks like he could defend the prize given his impressive goal-scoring performances in 2025/26, which have come despite Madrid’s wider dysfunction.
With Barcelona leading the La Liga title chase, Lamine Yamal has put himself near the top of the league’s goal scoring charts as well, but a late-season injury for the young superstar could impact not only his chances for the Pichichi trophy, but maybe puts his World Cup participation in jeopardy as well.
