New Zealanders have been living under some pretty tough lockdown restrictions for almost a month.

And they’ve certainly been stricter than what’s happening here in Australia, where lockdown levels haven’t been clearly defined.

But after ramping up to level four restrictions (the toughest) on March 25, our cross-Tasman neighbours are set to wind those back to level three from next week, starting at 11: 59pm on Monday.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand has done what few countries could do and stopped a “wave of devastation”, with total confirmed and probable cases in New Zealand at 1,440, and 12 deaths.

Today, there were nine new cases of coronavirus in New Zealand, seven confirmed and two probable.

“Going hard and going early gave us the very best chance of stamping out the virus, and it has,” she said.
