Ragged artiste Surabhi Babji dies at age 73

Hyderabad: Rekandar Nageswara Rao, more popularly in most cases known as Surabhi Babji, and the principle stage artist to be conferred with a Padma Shri died at his house in Serilingampally following a coronary heart attack on Thursday. He used to be 73.

Babji used to be plagued by ill-health for the past few months. Around 5.30 pm, Babji complained of chest trouble. After examination, medical doctors stated that he had died of a coronary heart attack.

The final rites would be performed here on Friday.

Surabhi Babji born accurate into a theatre household in Gimidi Peta in Srikakulam district. His forefather Rekander Chinna Venkatrao founded the Sri Venkateswara Natya Mandali (Surabhi) in 1937. Since then, the household members were organising Surabhi dramas all around the globe.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy stated that Surabhi Babji enthralled thousands and thousands of theatre-goers all the map thru his prolific 5-decade occupation.

Chief Minister Ok Chandrashekar Rao stated that Surabhi Babji made India proud with stage exhibits. He took accountability in organising Surabhi dramas with the 60 household members. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved household.

BJP express chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed peril on the unexpected loss of life of Surabhi Babji. He stated Babji promoted Telugu culture and traditions alongside with his exhibits.
