A council in Sydney’s east has revealed it will re-open its beaches for exercise from Monday regardless of NSW Health singling out the area as a coronavirus hotspot.

Key points:

  • Clovelly, Maroubra and Coogee will re-open for exercise on the sand and in the water
  • The beaches come under the Randwick council location, which has the 10 th-highest rate of COVID-19 in NSW
  • Beaches in the Waverley council location, such as Bondi, will not re-open

The barriers will come down at Coogee, Maroubra and Clovelly beaches on Monday after they were closed about a month earlier to stop individuals from gathering together.

Randwick Council stated the spread had actually been slowed and permitting access once again remained in the interests of residents’ wellbeing.
