Police on Tuesday arrested a youth for allegedly creating a fake Instagram account and uploading a woman’s private photos and videos following a dispute over a failed relationship and marriage proposal in Sambalpur, Odisha.
The accused was apprehended by the Sambalpur Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station after a detailed investigation into allegations of cyber harassment, online threats and circulation of obscene content through social media.
According to police, the incident was linked to a previous romantic relationship between the accused and the complainant. Officials said tensions reportedly escalated after a marriage proposal between the two failed.
Police said the accused allegedly began threatening the woman that her private photos and videos would be made viral on social media platforms. The woman later approached police after the threats reportedly intensified.
