Star Entertainment gutted its problem gambling programs and discussed misleading its Brisbane casino lenders with inflated earnings forecasts, according to documents that also reveal the gaming giant was forced to fire a senior executive just 10 days after he was hired over contested allegations he made grossly inappropriate remarks.
The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age have obtained internal correspondence and interviewed eight company insiders as part of an investigation that reveals Star is struggling to escape its long history of governance problems since Bruce Mathieson jnr and American casino operator Bally’s Corporation took over the business in December.
