TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN paid to Alex Coughlan, who died after an assault in Blanchardstown, in Dublin, on Sunday.
Two boys in their mid-teens have been arrested and charged as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
They have since appeared before court in connection with the assault.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
The man was found unconscious on Mill Road in Blanchardstown shortly after 4.20pm on Sunday, and was pronounced dead in hospital on Wednesday.
A fundraiser has been organised to assist the deceased’s family with funeral expenses. Over €14,000 has been raised for the funeral, details of which have yet to be announced.
The organiser of the fundraiser described the deceased as a ”caring and selfless” man who brought “love and laughter” to many.
“Alex was truly loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, warmth and presence touched so many lives, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him,” she said.
She said that his organs have been donated, describing this as “a lasting gift that reflects the caring and selfless person he was”.
The organiser expressed the deceased’s family’s thanks to the staff at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown and those who have supported the family with messages, visits and prayers.
“The family ask that Alex be remembered for the wonderful person he was and the love and laughter he brought to so many.”
Investigations are ongoing and gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Gardaí have looked to speak with anyone who travelled on Mill Lane in Blanchardstown, either on foot or by car, between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, gardaí have said they are aware video footage of this incident which is circulating online.
“Out of respect for the deceased and his family and as this matter is before the courts, we are asking members of the public not to share this footage on social media platforms or messaging apps,” said a garda spokesperson.
