THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Wednesday confirmed Vice President Sara Duterte’s visit on Tuesday (Aug. 4) to see jailed allies Senators Rodante Marcoleta and Jinggoy Estrada, and former congressman Mike Defensor.
“The BJMP confirms that Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio visited the BJMP Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory on Aug. 4, 2026. She arrived at around 12 noon, and left at approximately 3:20 p.m.,” Jail Supt. Jayrex Joseph Bustinera, BJMP spokesman, said in a text message to reporters.
“During her visit, she met with Sen. Rodante Dizon Marcoleta, Sen. Jose Pimentel Ejercito Jr., known as Jinggoy E. Estrada, and former congressman Michael Tan Defensor,” he added.
Marcoleta and Defensor were committed to the Quezon City Jail in July over plunder charges in connection with the P75-million senatorial campaign donation that the senator received from the former congressman and two businessmen in 2025.
Estrada, meanwhile, was committed to the Quezon City Jail in June and is facing a non-bailable plunder case and graft charges over alleged P573-million kickbacks from 2025 flood control project budgetary insertions. He has denied the accusations and filed petitions for bail.
