Wednesday Morning Minute

Good morning, and welcome to RedState’s “Morning Minute” — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.

TOP O’ THE MORNIN’ Scott Jennings Torches Critics of Pete Hegseth, Tears Into Current Pentagon Leadership

Thompson notes that Hegseth pulls no punches in his examination of the cultural rot infesting the military. Will he be the one to clean up that rot?

Court Vaporizes 50 Years of Environmental Law Leaving Trump’s EPA to Build on the Ashes

The silver lining is that Trump’s EPA, under Lee Zeldin (see We Have Another Trump Cabinet Pick: Lee Zeldin Gets the Nod), will get the first crack at reworking useless and expensive regulations.

Hang It in the Louvre: Nancy Pelosi Gives Update on How She’s Feeling Post-Trump’s Victory

Be a normal human being and ride off into the sunset. Spend some time with your grandkids. Stop wandering around the halls of Congress like a demented old kook mumbling about how terrible things are. There are people all across the country who would love to be able to retire with a $15,000 fridge full of designer ice cream.

WHAT’S ON TAP? Today on Capitol Hill…

Big day on the Hill today — the Senate will take its leadership vote Wednesday. President-elect Donald Trump will be visiting with House Republicans before he heads over to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Might he drop by the GOP conference meeting as well? We’ll soon find out.

White House What’s Up

President Joe Biden starts the morning alongside First Lady Jill, delivering remarks at the “Classroom to Career Summit.” Then, he’ll meet with his predecessor-successor, President-elect Trump late morning. Won’t that be fun?

Full Court Press…

It occurs to me, the way things are going as to Trump’s legal matters, this section might be getting quieter in the coming weeks, too. Tuesday, Judge Juan Merchan postponed his ruling on the presidential immunity issue in the Manhattan business records case. The new date for that is now next Tuesday, November 19, with sentencing still set for the following Tuesday — for now.

We’re still awaiting that appellate ruling in the civil fraud case brought by Letitia James. Any day now…

The Daniel Penny trial continues in Manhattan. Will justice be served? Based on the reporting thus far, it appears that’s more likely to be on appeal.

MORNING MUSING The conniptions some are having over Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy being tasked to head up the “Department of Government Efficiency” is rich. A) It’s not a government agency; B) It’s got an expiration date. Could it be a swing and a miss? Sure. But I’m here for the effort. To me, it’s “Dave” in the 21st century. Let’s see what they can do.
