Egis picked to care for Almaty ring-road

Egis will take care of the brand-new roadway for the next 15 yearsThe newly-completed Big Almaty Ring Road (BAKAD) develops a 66-kilometre bypass path at the junction of 2 worldwide highways: the Khorgos-Almaty-Beshkek-Taraz-Shymkent-Tashkent roadway (the ‘Silk Way’ for brief) and the Almaty-Karaganda-Astana-Petropavlovsk roadway (which does not have a snappier name). The roadway is owned by the BAKAD public-private collaboration (PPP). The brand-new roadway bypasses Almaty, Kazakhstan’s biggest city, running east-west around the city’s northern borders and around 25 kilometres from the city centre. Beginning this month, Egis will offer O&M services for the next 15 years, performing regular upkeep (consisting of winter season upkeep), free-flow toll collection (without any toll cubicles or gates), event management, back-office assistance and possession management technique. Renaud Beziade, Egis’ president (consulting & operations) stated: “We are extremely grateful to our long-lasting partners in running business BARR for their trust and for welcoming us to deal with them once again on such a renowned task. “The ring roadway completely lines up with our business objectives … it likewise includes a free-flow tolling operation– among our locations of proficiency. We are currently using engineering services in Kazakhstan through a long-term workplace in Astana therefore we can rapidly scale as much as provide the facilities management services required.” The BAKAD PPP was established on behalf of the Kazakh federal government in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and International Finance Corporation as consultants. The BAKAD consortium consists of Turkish specialists Makyol and Alarko, each with 33.3% and Korean company SK Ecoplant with another 33.3% share, and Korean operator KEC with 0.1%.
