Tension prevailed in Bhubaneswar on Thursday as members of the Indian National Congress (INC) staged a massive protest opposing the implementation of 33 percent women’s reservation bill. The demonstration, led by the women’s Congress wing, saw hundreds of party workers gathering to gherao the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

This led to a tense face-off between the agitators and security personnel deployed at the site. Eyewitnesses expressed pushing and shouting as demonstrators tried to force their way forward.
Several prominent leaders participated in the protest, including Odisha PCC chief Bhakta Charan Das, along with women functionaries Tulika Karma and Minakshi Bahinipati. The leaders reiterated their demand for immediate withdrawal of the reservation bill, calling it politically inclined and it does not truly intend representation and empowerment of women.
