AUSTIN (KXAN)– Austin Public Health verified Thursday there is proof of neighborhood spread of COVID-19, the illness brought on by the new coronavirus, in Travis County.
Community spread means health officials can’t locate where a case originated from, indicating they can’t link it to another person or place.
Travis County revealed Thursday it had 41 cases of COVID-19 in the county, compared to 23 the day before. APH spokesperson Jennifer Samp said while a majority of cases are travel-related, she could validate initial reports show evidence of neighborhood spread in Travis County, however says APH is still examining.
” We’ve currently been getting ready for this,” Samp said. “We’re in mitigation mode right now. We’re attempting to slow the spread.”
