Tape-record spike in new coronavirus cases reported in six U.S. states as resuming speeds up

( Reuters) – New coronavirus infections hit record highs in 6 U.S. states on Tuesday, marking an increasing tide of cases for a second successive week as many states progressed with reopening their economies.

Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas all reported record increases in new cases on Tuesday after recording all-time highs recently. Nevada also reported its highest single-day tally of new cases on Tuesday, up from a previous high up on Might23 Hospitalizations are likewise increasing or at record highs.

At Arizona’s Tucson Medical Center on Monday, just a single extensive care unit (ICU) bed designated for COVID-19 clients was readily available, with the other 19 beds filled, a healthcare facility representative stated.

” ICU to be expanded, ideally, in coming days,” Dr. Steven Oscherwitz, an infectious illness professional at the health center, said in a tweet on Monday night. “Not exactly sure where individuals requiring ICU care will have the ability to go, since most AZ (Arizona) medical facilities are pretty full now.”

Health authorities in many states associate the spike to organisations reopening and Memorial Day weekend gatherings in late May. Many states are also bracing for a possible increase in cases stemming from tens of countless individuals protesting to end racial oppression and police cruelty for the previous 3 weeks.
