A unique religious tradition is being followed in the historical Jagdish temple located in Kota for about 300 years. Here every year on Jyeshtha Purnima, 14 days special ‘sick leave’ is given to the Lord. It is believed that after bathing in cold water and consuming mango juice in the scorching heat, the Lord becomes unwell, due to which the doors of the temple are closed for 14 days.
According to tradition, on Jyeshtha Purnima, special anointment of the Lord is done with 51 water pots and Panchamrit. After this, a special offering of about 200 kg of mango juice is offered to the Lord. After the completion of the religious rituals, the doors of the temple are closed at 9 pm, so that the Lord can rest and get health benefits.
During this period, special precautions are also taken in the temple. To ensure that there is no disturbance in the Lord’s rest, the bells and skirts of the temple are covered with clothes. For the next 14 days, the priests take symbolic care of the Lord’s health every day and a special decoction of milk and black pepper is also offered for health benefits.

The temple remains open for devotees to visit from 6 to 10 in the morning and from 4 to 9 in the evening.
