A first-look trailer for The Bluey Movie has been released, revealing one major change to the popular Aussie kids’ TV show.
A 3D makeover means solid character outlines have been dropped from the animation style for the big-screen adaptation, which will hit cinemas on August 6 next year.
“My son said they look like they’re made out of playdough,” one mother commented on the newly released trailer on social media. “My six year old said the same thing,” another parent said.

The trailer shows the the titular character and her sister Bingo playing keepy-uppy with a balloon in the yard.
Bluey can be heard shouting “good one Bingo” as the balloon is punched into the air, to which Bingo replies “thanks Bluey”.
As the balloon falls again, the pair scream as they accidentally push the balloon forwards rather than upwards, and Bluey shouts “don’t let it touch the ground”.
The pair then race after the balloon but it hits the grass and the pair run away before it pops to reveal the film’s title.
The trailer was released at Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, in Anaheim, California, with the film’s producers saying it “takes place on an action-packed day when a big surprise changes everything for Bluey and her family”.
At the fan event, there was a surprise game of keepy-uppy with the balloons from the trailer for fans, while a poster for the film, featuring Bluey and a balloon, was also released.
The movie will be written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm and produced by Ludo Studio, which makes the show, in collaboration with BBC Studios.
The show follows the enthusiastic and imaginative Blue Heeler dogs Bluey and Bingo, along with their mother Chilli and father Bandit.
The film will feature voice talent from the series, including Melanie Zanetti as Chilli and David McCormack as Bandit.
While most episodes are about seven minutes long, creator Brumm experimented with a longer episode to end the third series in 2024.
Available in more than 140 countries, Bluey is one of the number one shows for children.
Disney will release the Bluey movie in cinemas worldwide, followed by streaming on Disney+.
