Customs officials have achieved great success at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The Customs Department has arrested six Thai citizens, including three women.
A huge quantity of ‘hydroponic ganja’ has been recovered from these foreign nationals. According to the information, the value of this seized ganja in the international market has been estimated at more than Rs 19 crore.
Customs and police officials shared information about this major action on Monday. He told that this action was taken on Saturday, when all these accused had reached Varanasi from Bangkok via Air India Express flight (IX-215).

Suspicion arose over the activities of these passengers during routine checking and screening at the airport. After this the customs officers stopped them and searched their luggage. Upon investigation, 19.7 kg of hydroponic ganja was recovered from inside his trolley bag. Smugglers had used plastic packets to hide this banned drug.
What is hydroponic hemp?
Hydroponic hemp is also called ‘hydroponic weed’. It is much more intoxicating and effective than ordinary marijuana. Soil is not used to grow it. Instead, it is specially formulated in a nutrient-rich water-based system.
Have smuggled through Kolkata and Gaya earlier also
After the arrest, when the investigators interrogated these accused closely, they made many shocking revelations. The accused admitted that they were not smuggling drugs into India for the first time. Even before this, they had delivered consignments of drugs to India via Kolkata and Gaya.
The investigating agencies are also closely investigating the role of another Thai woman in this case. According to the report, the same woman had booked a hotel for these smugglers to stay in India. Apart from this, she was also involved in planning to take this consignment to its rightful destination in India.

After completing the legal formalities, the Customs Department presented all the six accused before the magistrate. Following the court order, he has been sent to jail in judicial custody.
